We reported over the weekend on the possibility of MetroPCS selling the mid-range LG Optimus F6 Android smartphone and now it looks like the carrier has just confirmed the previous rumors.

However, instead of announcing the smartphone to be available for purchase soon, MetroPCS stated the Optimus F6 can be had starting today from its brick and mortar stores across the country, as well as online.

Customers who want an affordable Android phone may want to give the Optimus F6 a look. MetroPCS is offering the smartphone for only $200 (€145) off-contract.

The smartphone can be combined with MetroPCS' 4G service plans that offer unlimited data, talk and text starting at just “$40, period.”

For those unfamiliar with LG Optimus F6, the handset ships with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box and will probably stay on this version for a long time (if not forever).

Hardware-wise, the Optimus F6 is far from being impressive, but offers decent features. It comes equipped with a 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

Although the mid-range smartphone packs only 4GB of internal memory, users will be able to further expand storage up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

As expected, LG Optimus F6 comes with full support for 4G LTE and HSPA+ connectivity on T-Mobile's nationwide 4G and LTE network.

It also sports a crystal-clear 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

The Optimus F6 has a decent 5-megapixel rear-facing with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video capture, as well as a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for easy video chat.

Last but not least, the smartphone is powered by a 2460 mAh Li-Ion battery that should provide up to 408 hours of standby time or up to 19.5 hours of talk time.
