Today, Australian wireless carrier Optus made available for purchase on its network a new Android-based device, namely the LG Optimus F5, with support for its 4G LTE network and with Google’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean platform loaded on top.

The LG Optimus F5 arrives on shelves as a stylish and sophisticated smartphone, Optimus notes. However, we should note that it is only a mid-range device, and its hardware specs confirm this.

The new mobile phone features a 4.3-inch qHD IPS touchscreen display, along with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor inside, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

Furthermore, the new device sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, a 1.3MP front camera for making video calls, and a nice range of exclusive applications coming from LG themselves.

Among these, we can count:

- QuickMemo: Lets users capture and share handwritten notes on the screen of the phone using just their finger. - QSlide: Lets users open up to three apps at the same time on the one screen with the ability to change the size, position and transparency of the opened apps. - Live Zooming: Lets users zoom in on videos whilst they are playing, so they can get a closer, more detailed look at any specific area. - Video Wiz: An application that lets users play movie director by giving them the power to edit videos on the phone and enhance them with sound and music. - QuickTranslator function: Translates not only words but entire sentences and phrases by simply using the camera to scan the text. QuickTranslator accepts 44 different languages and can translate them into any one of 64 languages.

The LG Optimus F5 sports a price tag of 299 AUD (288 USD / 221 Euro) at the wireless carrier when purchased with pre-paid plans, as can be seen on this page. However, users can also grab the smartphone for $0 upfront on the carrier’s 35 AUD (33.75 USD / 25.91 Euro) Optus Plan, with the signing of a two-year contract agreement.

According to Ausdroid, the phone was made available on Virgin Mobile’s network as well, at $0 on their 29 AUD (28 USD / 21.47 Euro) Big Plan.
