Mobile phone carrier Vodafone Australia has just announced the availability of a new Android-based mobile phone on its airwaves, the LG Optimus Black, which was added to its offering for Free upfront on a $69 per month cap. The LG Optimus Black was unveiled to the world with one of the brightest touchscreen display a mobile device sports these days, the NOVA display.

The 4-inch touchscreen can deliver a brightness output of 700nit, which makes it 129% brighter than S-AMOLED, and also brighter than the Retina display used in the Apple iPhone 4.

The new mobile phone runs under Google's Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system, sports a slim and lightweight body, and can deliver a great experience to all users, the wireless carrier announced.

“The LG Optimus Black has a width of just 9.2mm and weighs only 109 grams. This allows you to carry your smartphone in your pocket without feeling weighed down,” Vodafone notes.

“Featuring a 5.0 megapixel main camera and a 2.0 megapixel front facing camera, the LG Optimus Black can also video record at 720p, meaning you can take quality photos, upload them to your Facebook account and also upload videos straight to YouTube.”

The new mobile phone also comes with a fast 1GHz application processor, as well as with 1GB of internal memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of external storage.

The specification list for this device also includes support for GSM: 850/900/1800/1900Mhz and HSPA/WCDMA:900/2100Mhz connectivity, as well as Bluetooth: V2.1 + EDR, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi capabilities, along with Wi-Fi hotspot features.

The LG Optimus Black comes with multimedia capabilities as well, including support for MP3, AAC, AAC+, AMR-NB, WMA, SP-MIDI, WAV audio files and for H.263/H.264/MPEG4/WMV/DIVX video file formats.
