T-Mobile will be the first UK carrier to retail the LG Optimus Black smartphone, as the carrier has just published the device's “coming soon” page. Optimus Black has been introduced at the beginning of the year and showcased at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but its spec sheet has not been revealed yet.

However, the manufacturer stated clearly that Optimus Black will be the first LG handset to carry a NOVA display, which is designed to be the one of the brightest and clearest mobile screens.

According to LG, the NOVA display emits 700 nits (candela per square meter). For comparison, Apple's iPhone 4 manages to display 500 nits and Samsung’s Galaxy S only 300.

The NOVA display on LG Optimus Black also radically reduces power consumption by 50% during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD screen.

Furthermore, according to the Korean manufacturer, AMOLED displays use up twice as much power as NOVA to display a full white screen, which is the most frequently used color scheme for web browsing.

In addition to the 4-inch NOVA display, the Optimus Black is also said to run on the Android 2.2 Froyo platform, and might be upgradable to Gingerbread.

Last week the guys over at Pocket-lint found out that the sales package of the smartphone will also include an extra back cover. It seems that the manufacturer plans to roll out more different colored back covers which can be purchased to change the appearance of the phone.

In terms of what is included in the box, that hasn’t been decided, but it's most likely to be one back cover. You’ll be able to buy more back covers to change the appearance of the phone,” said James Choi, marketing strategy and planning director of LG Electronics.

For additional information about the phone's release date and price, customers can register on T-Mobile's “coming soon” page to receive updates as soon as they are available.
