On Friday, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has announced the launch of a new smartphone on its homeland market, namely the LG Optimus Big.

The latest addition to the company's already popular Optimus series was announced as available in South Korea starting with April 28th, via wireless carrier LG U+.

However, users interested in the purchase of the new device won't have to wait until that date to order a unit, since the handset is already available for pre-order, and users should be able to reserve units until April 27th.

The new LG Optimus Big (model number LG-LU6800) comes to the market with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo platform version on board.

The same as other Optimus devices, the new Android handset arrives on shelves with a NOVA display. The technology was used on LG Optimus Black for the first time, bringing very high brightness levels into the mix.

LG Optimus Big's touchscreen display measures 4.3-inch, and hides a dual-core application processor beneath, with each of the two cores clocked in at 1GHz.

The specifications list of the new device also includes 16GB of internal memory, along with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with auto focus and video recording capabilities.

Other hardware specs of the new device would include support for 3G networks, along with Bluetooth 3.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, as well as an HDMI port.

The new mobile phone would also arrive on shelves with support for a wide range of Google Mobile Services, as well as for applications available for download via the Android Market.

When released on shelves in South Korea, the LG Optimus Big (LG-LU6800) would pack a 1,500mAh battery, and would be dressed in two colors white and black.

The smartphone was spotted before, yet no specific info on its possible landing in other markets around the world emerged for the time being.
