One of the new mobile phones that South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics made official just ahead of this year’s Mobile World Congress was the LG Optimus 4X HD, which should land on shelves in the UK sometime in June.

LG hasn’t made an official announcement on the matter, but online retailer Clove suggests that this is the release timeframe for LG’s first quad-core smartphone.

Moreover, the online retailer has added the new mobile phone to its pre-order lineup, and those who would like to get a taste of its capabilities can now reserve one for when it is launched.

The handset packs a 1.5GHz quad-core application processor (an NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip) and features a large 4.7" (1280 x 720) True HD IPS.

Moreover, the mobile phone includes 16GB of internal storage, as well as an 8-megapixel photo snapper with BSI Sensor (it is capable of recording videos in full HD), and a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video calling.

“It's not just the power of a quad-core handset that the 4X HD offers, but an HD multimedia experience,” Clove notes on its website.

“The NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor is the world`s only 4-PLUS-1 Quad-Core mobile processor designed for high-level multimedia performance but utilizes a fifth battery-saver core to handle less demanding tasks such as active standby and music playback.

“When running at full speed, the 12-core graphics processing unit (GPU) in Tegra 3 delivers a visually rich experience and console-quality game playability.”

The upcoming LG Optimus 4X HD runs under Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It is 8.9mm thick and sports a 2150 mAh battery inside.

At the moment, Clove has the new mobile phone listed as available for reservations at £380 (£456 inc. VAT - $721 / 546 Euro). However, the price tag for the phone, as well as its release date, might change, so keep an eye on this space for that.
