Today, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has officially announced plans to come to the spotlight at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from February 14 to 17 with its first 3D smartphone, the LG Optimus 3D.

The handset was rumored a few times before to be on its way to make an official appearance at the upcoming show in Barcelona, and now all has been confirmed.

The LG Optimus 3D does not come to the market only as LG's first 3D smartphone, but it is also the first such handset in the world.

According to the mobile phone maker, the forthcoming device should be able to offer a full 3D experience right in the palm of their hands.

“The LG Optimus 3D addresses the lack of 3D content issue -- one of the biggest problems facing the 3D market -- with a complete platform for a one-of-a-kind experience on a mobile device,” the leading handset vendor announced.

At the same time, LG confirmed one spec of the handset that was not rumored before, namely that the phone would also be capable of recording 3D content.

“LG’s most advanced smartphone to date will feature a dual-lens camera for 3D recording, a glasses-free LCD panel for 3D viewing and diverse connectivity options such as HDMI and DLNA for 3D content sharing anytime, anywhere.”

These are all of the details that LG unveiled on the handset for the time being, but more would be announced officially at MWC, where the company plans on having the LG Optimus 3D on display from February 14 to 17.

Some of the previous rumors on this device suggested that it might be released on the market with a touchscreen display larger than 4 inch, and that it would run under Google's Android operating system. Keep an eye on this space for additional info on the upcoming mobile phone.
