14 DAY TRIAL // Showcased two months ago at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, LG Optimus 3D Max has just made its debut in Europe.
The first country to get LG’s premium smartphone is Germany. Unfortunately, the Optimus 3D Max won’t be released in the UK, an LG rep told Engadget.
The South Korean handset maker failed to reveal the Optimus 3D Max’s pricing options, but mentioned that the phone would be positioned “on the premium end of the smartphone scale.”
That’s too bad as this comes with little improvements in comparison with its Optimus 3D predecessor. Aside from the slightly better processor and more memory, there are no other hardware improvements.
However, customers who treasure look over performance will be happy to know that the Optimus 3D Max is 20g lighter than its predecessor, and 2.3mm thinner at only 9.6mm.
Software-wise, the Optimus 3D Max is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, integrated with LG 3D user interface.
In addition, the smartphone comes pre-loaded with a new 3D Converter, allowing for much diversified 3D content. There’s also an innovative 3D video editor that provides users with the ability to edit 3D video content directly on the phone.
On the inside, LG Optimus 3D Max packs a 1.2 Ghz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor, which is complemented by a PowerVR SGX540 and 1GB of RAM. The phone embeds 8GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.
“We are deliberately pushing the limits of mobile entertainment innovation with the Op-timus 3D Max. This device has evolved significantly since we introduced the first Optimus 3D at Mobile World Congress in 2011. Our second generation glasses-free 3D smartphone is as thin and light as any other high-end smartphone while still de-livering a spectacular picture in either 2D or 3D,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
