Initially slated for a March 20 release in the UK, it looks like LG Optimus 3D Max has been postponed for next month.

According to SoMobile, online retailer Unlocked-Mobiles claims it has been informed by LG that the Optimus 3D Max will be launched within “the next few weeks.”

Currently, Unlocked-Mobiles offers an April 18 release date for the handset, but this might be subject to change. It's unclear why LG decided to delay the 3D smartphone, but this is not the first time the South-Korean handset vendor is postponing one of its devices.

Those who still think it's a good idea to wait for the LG Optimus 3D Max should know that the smartphone is now up for pre-order at Unlocked-Mobiles £395 (625 USD or 475 EUR) outright.

LG Optimus 3D Max was unveiled back in February, a few days ahead of Mobile World Congress 2012 trade fair opening. This is the spiritual successor of the Optimus 3D in all aspects.

Unfortunately, the hardware differences between the two models are minor, so it will be interesting to see how it will impact on its sales.

The Optimus 3D Max is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, but the phone is scheduled for an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime later this year (hopefully).

On the inside, the handset is equipped with a slightly better dual core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The Optimus 3D only embeds a 1 GHz dual core CPU. In addition, the Optimus 3D Max comes with double the amount of RAM in comparison with the original model's 512 MB.

The device sports 8GB of internal memory, microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB), dual 5-megapixel rear cameras, as well as secondary VGA front facing camera for video calls.

Last but not least, the Optimus 3D Max comes with a large 4.3-inch 3D LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 480 x 800 pixels resolution, and features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.
