South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics announced last week the release of a new Android-based handset, the LG Optimus 2X, which is the first smartphone in the world to include a dual-core Tegra 2 chipset from Nvidia.

The handset vendor announced at the time that the mobile phone would arrive on shelves on the South Korean market in January, with other markets in Europe and Asia to follow shortly, and it seems that the handset might actually arrive in more countries next month.

According to a recent article on Tech Radar, the leading mobile phone maker has confirmed the upcoming January launch for the Tegra 2-based LG Optimus 2X on the European market. The phone would have a companion when released, the recently rumored LG B smartphone.

Apparently, the Android-based handset would arrive on shelves with exclusive ringtones coming from legendary movie theme composer Ennio Morricone.

“The exclusive music will be preloaded on LG smartphones starting with the LG Optimus 2X set to debut next month in Europe,” said LG's official release.

Packing a 4-inch touchscreen display and Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board, the mobile phone would be one of the most powerful devices of the kind when released on shelves in January.

It should get even better soon after the initial release, as LG promised an upgrade to the new Android 2.3 operating system version.

While expected to land in South Korea and Europe in January, the handset should arrive on the US market by March, some of the latest reports on it suggest.

RCR Wireless got word that T-Mobile US would be able to make its customers quite happy during the first quarter of the next year, when it would launch the LG Optimus 2X on its airwaves.

In case the rumor would indeed pan out, the carrier would bring a nice device on its shelves soon, packing both a dual-core processor, as well as support for its HSPA+ network and, of course, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread goodness.
