As expected, LG Optimus 2X goes on sale starting today without too much fuss, as the device is available from various online retailers.

Although the price for the device is extremely high at $800, several carriers have already promised that they will offer the smartphone at a decent price.

Interested people who are not in a hurry to purchase the expensive Tegra 2 device will be able to get a better deal in few weeks. Amazon.de has already listed the device in its web store for €480, but the availability mentioned is one to three weeks.

Other major carriers are expected to sell the device for a lower price to those who prefer to avoid paying for the early adoption fee.

The LG Optimus 2X was one of the first smartphones in the world to be unveiled with a dual-core application processor inside.

The smartphone comes with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board and embeds a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor clocked at speeds of up to 1GHz.

Even though the handset is delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo out-of-the-box, the Korean manufacturer has stated that it will be upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. However, no upgrade schedule has been announced yet.

Introduced at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the Optimus 2X sports a larger 4-inch touchscreen display with 16 million colors support and 800 x 480 pixels resolution.

The superior 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash is fully compatible with HD video recording, while the 1.3-megapixel front camera allows users to make video calls.

The included 8GB of built-in storage can be expanded through a microSD card slot up to 32 GB.

Among other highlights of the Optimus 2X, it is worth mentioning the HSDPA and HSUPA support, WiFi connectivity, built-in GPS receiver and the high capacity 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery.
