Fido has just added the LG Optimus 2X Android-powered smarpthone on its “Coming Soon” list, but the carrier is expected to launch more devices in the next few weeks.

According to an internal document leaked last week, Fido will be releasing three new smartphones in Q3, such as the LG Optimus 2X, Samsung Galaxy Q and Sony Ericsson Xperia pro.

It looks like the rumors have been confirmed and the first device to hit shelves, the Optimus 2X will soon be available for purchase from Fido for as low as $100 with a new three-year agreement.

Moreover, the carrier offers additional price option for the Optimus 2X, so potential customer can purchase the smartphone for $375 with a new two-year agreement or $425 off-contract.

This is Fido's first dual-core smartphone and will be delivered with Android 2.2 (Froyo) out-of-the-box, but the carrier mentions that an upgrade to Gingerbread will soon be available.

LG Optimus 2X comes with a 4.0-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors and 480 x 800 pixels resolution, as well as accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and Gyro sensor.

The phone boasts an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, face and smile detection, touch focus, image stabilization, as well as video recording capabilities (1080p@24fps). A secondary 1.3-megapixel front facing camera is also included, so users can make video calls.

As the name suggests the Optimus 2X is equipped with a dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Tegra 2 processor, complemented by an ULP GeForce GPU (graphics processing unit).

In addition, it packs 8GB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

On related news, the Optimus 2X is now available in the United States as G2X, while Canadian users will be able to pick the smartphone from WIND and Videotron in the near future.
