Officially introduced at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, LG Optimus 2X is expected to be available in the UK in March. Even though details about the upcoming release of the smartphone were scarce, it looks like the device is listed by an online retailer and available for pre-orders.

According to Play.com, LG Optimus 2X is due for release on March 18th and has been priced at £469.99, contract-free.

Furthermore, Optimus 2X pre-orders were available in the UK three weeks ago, when Expansys introduced the smartphone for £499.99.

However, Expansys mentioned initially that LG Optimus 2X is expected to be shipped starting February 21st, but recently changed the release date for March 19th. This makes it almost official, as both online retailers will ship the Optimus 2X around the same date.

Among the highlights of the device, it is worth mentioning that the dual-core Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip found in the LG Optimus 2X was developed by NVIDIA and runs at a clock speed of 1GHz.

The dual-core CPU boasts low power consumption and high performance for playing video and audio.

In addition, users will experience faster web browsing and smoother gameplay compared with single-core processors running at the same speed.

LG Optimus 2X also offers 1080p HD video playback and HDMI recording. It also packs both rear- and front-facing cameras, microSD memory expandability (up to 32GB), 8GB storage (380 MB RAM user-available) and a hefty 1500mAh battery.

The phone is HSDPA and HSUPA compatible and it features Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP connectivity, DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) function, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.

According to LG, the phone will initially be released with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and will be upgradeable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The Korean manufacturer vaguely stated that the upgrade schedule would be announced in local markets in due course.
