South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has announced new color versions of LG G2, its latest flagship Android-based smartphone, namely Red and Gold.

The Gold flavor of the handset was already spotted online a few days ago, and the company was quick to make an official announcement on it.

The vendor announced that the new LG G2 variants were unveiled in time for the Lunar New Year, which will be celebrated in around 2 weeks, as TechDroid notes.

The Gold version of the mobile phone is a Limited Edition device, featuring a textured back cover, and not the usual plastic one. This means that it will offer better grip, while also ensuring that smudges and fingerprints don’t stick on it.

The new Red and Gold LG G2 devices are expected to become available for purchase in Singapore on January 18, via Starhub, SingTel and M1. They will sport a price tag of S$898 ($704/€518), contract free.

Despite the change in color, the new variants of the mobile phone will come to the market with the same hardware specifications as the original model.

This includes a 5.2-inch IPS touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, as well as a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor inside. Moreover, the handset features 2GB of RAM, along with 16GB and 32GB of internal memory options.

On the back, the mobile phone features a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization and full HD video recording capabilities, complemented by a 2.1MP front camera for making video calls.

The handset is powered by a 3000 mAh battery and is running under Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. However, LG has already started to deliver the Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade to the mobile phone, and it might not be too long before it makes it available to all users out there.
