It looks like the latest rumors on the upcoming availability of the next Nexus smartphone were completely accurate. Built by LG, the Nexus 4 will be launched on October 29 via Google Play store.

The folks at ByteNow report a source close to the matter who wishes to remain anonymous confirmed the next Nexus is the same device that leaked in the past few weeks.

However, the cited source did not want to confirm or deny whether the pictures of the phone that surfaced recently were the real LG Nexus.

Furthermore, it appears that the LG Nexus will be available for $399 USD (310 EUR) via Google Play store, but it might go on sale through other sale channels as well.

This is the good news. The bad news is that there are some things about the hardware configuration that don’t match with the latest hearsay.

For example, the LG Nexus will be shipped with only 8GB of internal memory, which won’t be expandable as the phone does not come with microSD card slot.

Even though there were some speculations that Google might launch a 16GB device, it has been confirmed that all prototypes were only 8GB units.

Fortunately, the phone will still be equipped with a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor build on Krait architecture, which will be complemented by 2GB of RAM.

In addition, the smartphone will boast a stunning 4.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display with HD resolution, which is said to be “as beautiful, if not more beautiful, than the HTC One X’s display.”

There’s more bad news as Google doesn’t plan to add LTE support to this Nexus device, in order to keep the phone’s price lower. The next Nexus device will be GSM-only, which considerably limits its functionality in the US.

In the same piece of news, ByteNow also reports there’s a 60% chance that the phone will be launched as LG Optimus Nexus, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
