The time has finally come for LG Lucid owners to upgrade their devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform.

Unveiled back in March, LG Lucid hit shelves at Verizon Wireless one month later. Even though the smartphone was launched with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system out of the box, LG and Verizon promised an Ice Cream Sandwich update would be released at some point.

The US-based carrier has just announced it has started the rollout of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for LG Lucid. The upgrade is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so not all LG Lucid owners will get it at the same time.

In addition, the software upgrade is also available for download through the Software Upgrade Assistant Tool via PC.

According to Verizon, “the upgrade features an enhanced notification bar that includes access to the settings menu and the ability to swipe individual notifications to remove them. Ice Cream Sandwich also comes with a customizable lock screen to access email, text messages or apps that are added to the home screen.”

As expected, the update will enable the smartphone with Verizon Remote Diagnostics Tool. In addition, the File Manager will manage the online files on the online storage and the Google Talk (GTalk) video chat has been updated for better stability.

The latest major update also adds support for Firmware Over The Air (FOTA) and the ability to Watch & Learn videos.

More importantly, the Adobe Flash Player 11 has been updated in order to support Ice Cream Sandwich device and performance improvements.

Furthermore, the LG Lucid receives improved voice clarity during voice calls and the power button will now turn on the LCD backlight while on a voice call. For more details on the list of changes included in this update, check out the official changelog.
