It looks like LG is doing more than releasing new mobile phones, tablets and 3D TVs, as one of its most recent revelations deals with a certain set-top box capable of doing everything its name implies.

Nowadays, there seems to be a visible transition towards so-called smart TV solutions, namely TVs, or accessories, that link the display to the Internet, not just broadcast providers.

There are already a number of this sort of TVs, even so-called all-in-one models, some of which can even browse the web on their own.

For all the rest, there are such things as web-connected set-top boxes, STB for short, such as a certain Smart TV Upgrader ST600 that was revealed way back at the start of January, 2011.

Now, it looks like that very product has, at long last, received a shipment time frame and a price, courtesy of Amazon, or this particular listing to be more precise.

Basically, the electronic promises to turn any TV into a smart TV, so to speak, regardless of manufacturer. To this end, it has built-in WiFi and 1,080p media support.

Among other things, ConemaNow streaming will be possible, in addition to similar services from Netflix and VUDU.

Also, consumers will have access to LG TV Apps and will be able to use a browser to search the Internet.

What's more, while not available out of the box, Plex functionality is said to be in the works as well and will be added as part of subsequent, free firmware updates.

For those that don't know, Plex is a PC or Mac media server application that streams digital media and performs real-time transcoding from a home media server.

Sales of the device itself are set to commence in two to five weeks, for the price of $129.99, while the firmware update mentioned above will arrive in the third quarter, or maybe even earlier.
