LG has been quiet on the Windows Phone front, as the South Korean company focused all its resources on Android market. Every time the media asked about LG's Windows Phone plans, the handset maker avoided giving a straight answer.

However, last month an unannounced smartphone powered by Windows Phone with the LG brand has been spotted in the Global Certification Forum. The so-called LG VW820 was also an indication that the smartphone will be launched at Verizon Wireless.

Today, the folks over at Neowin have published the first image of the leaked LG smartphone, but a market name is not yet available.

Although previous rumors claimed that the Verizon-branded LG smartphone might be powered by Windows 10 for Phones, Microsoft's new version of the OS that's supposed to arrive later this summer, the leaked render confirms that this is still a Windows Phone 8.1 device.

The LG VW820 leaked for the first time back in March

Since LG plans to launch another Windows Phone 8.1 handset, it makes sense for the South Korean company to release it before Microsoft makes Windows 10 for Phones available on the market.

Otherwise, LG's smartphone will face some serious competition from the new Windows 10 handsets that Microsoft plans to launch soon afterwards.

Unfortunately, aside from the press render published today, there aren't any details on the LG's upcoming Windows Phone specs sheet.

From what we can see, this is a mid-range smartphone with a 4.5- or 5-inch display. LG VW820 might also be equipped with a quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM, but keep in mind that these are just speculations.

The good news is that another important handset manufacturer is determined to return to making Windows Phone smartphones. We expect more details on LG's Windows Phone plans to emerge in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
