The 37- and 42-inch 2 megapixel LCD HDTVs

LG Electronics (LG), a leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, has just launched a new line-up of HDTVs that includes - the 37- and 42-inch 2 megapixel LCD HDTVs - 37LB2DR, 42LB2DR - with twice the resolution of currently available HDTVs. Moreover, the manufacturer has previously launched other two HDTV models - the 47- and 55-inch devices.

"These full HDTVs feature a 2 megapixel, 1,920 x 1,080, resolution which is twice that of existing 1 megapixel 1,363 x 768 HDTVs, and six times higher than standard definition TVs. Full HDTVs can display high resolution 1080P programming at full quality. The popularity of 2 megapixel HDTVs is expected to grow rapidly as next generation content and formats including Blu-ray and HD-DVD players, advanced game consoles, and other devices capable of outputting a 2 mega pixel signals come to market. These LG TVs have the ability to display 5.4 trillion colors and a 6000:1 contrast ratio, creating exceptionally natural-looking images. The 6ms response time reduces motion blur in action movies or sports," said the company.

LG intends to set the 2 megapixel HDTVs with built-in digital video recorders (DVR) to the core of its marketing strategy for flat panel TVs Flat TVs, which feature built-in DVR and Full HD screens, 250 GB hard disks, and are able to automatically record up to two hours of video for instant playback, and can store a maximum of 92 hours of video.

"DisplaySearch, a global market research company, foresees high sales growth for full HD LCD TVs. They are expected to make up 48 percent (approximately 23 million units) of the total market for 37-inch and larger LCD TVs in 2010. DisplaySearch also expects that sales of TVs following the 42-inch standard (37-, 42-, and 47-inch), used by LG, will exceed sales of TVs following the 40-inch standard (40- and 46-inch). This year, TVs in the 42-inch group are expected to sell 4.2 million units, while TVs in the 40-inch group are expected to sell 2.9 million units. This is expected to increase to 24 million and 20 million units respectively in 2010," the company added.
