LG launched its latest G4 flagship globally, but the smartphone maker also recently unveiled a brand new phone destined to be sold exclusively on the Japanese market from NTT Docomo.
The smartphone is the 8th model in the “Disney Mobile” lineup, which seems to be quite popular in the country. And given Japan’s predilection for odd stuff, we’re not really surprised.
Anyway, the phone is referred to as model number DM-01G and is decently specced, as seen at the Korean Herald.
It arrives with a 5.2-inch IPS display with FHD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and draws life from a Snapdragon 801 processor, which powered most of last year’s flagship models, together with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.
The new handset boasts a 13.2MP main camera plus a 2.4MP front-facing unit as a selfie shooter. The smartphone runs Android 5.0 out of the box with LG’s UX plastered on top, which has seen a few tweaks.
Japanese customers love Disney-themed phones
As you can see, the DM-01G doesn’t offer anything spectacular in terms of specifications. What’s special about this handset are its looks and the thematic.
The new LG smartphone has a Mickey Mouse cover with several embedded Swarovski crystals that represent the fireworks above the famous Cinderella’s Castle we see at the beginning of every Disney Movie.
Other tweaks LG has added on the phone, to make it even more Disney friendly, are visible in the software department. We told you that the phone runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, but the manufacturer is offering several themes with it, including Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Frozen.
There’s also a custom lock screen included in this equation and LG is offering the phone in blue, pink and white.
LG hasn’t said anything about the exact availability dates or the pricing, but as we have mentioned above, the phone should only sell in Japan. Given the fact that the DM-01G will be sold with a cover that embeds Swarovski crystals, we shouldn’t expect the phone to be very affordable. Even so, LG is catering to a niche of smartphone users who like the exclusivity of such atypical pieces of gadgetry.
