We’re probably going to see the handset at CES 2015

Mobile devices running on Firefox OS aren’t exactly common, but you can spot some here and there, usually coming with budget price tags.

LG for example, isn't a stranger to the charms of the fiery fox. As you might remember, the South Korean tech giant launched its first handset taking advantage of this operating system, dubbed the LG Fireweb, last year. Sadly, it only made it available in Brazil, but things might luckily change soon enough.

Second-gen Firefox OS smartphones are coming

According to a sketch posted by Chinese Twitter account Upleaks, LG is supposedly gearing up to produce a new Firefox OS-based smartphone, which is being touted as the LG L25.

However, LG doesn't seem to have any plans of launching its upcoming Firefox smartphone on a global scale. If we’re to listen to the rumors, the LG L25 will become available only in Japan, exclusively from carrier KDDI. But we shouldn’t hope to see it outside Japanese borders anytime soon.

The leak also contains a bunch of screenshots depicting the UI. Judging by the images, we can say the design seems to be quite different from LG’s Fireweb phone the company launched in Brazil.

We’re also given a purported spec list for the LG L25 which shows us that the smartphone will arrive with a 4.68-inch display of the IPS variety that will boast 1280 x 720 pixel resolution.

The LG L25 has mid-range specs

The powerhouse of the device is shown to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip (MSM8926) fitted with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

If these specs turn out to be the real thing, LG L25 will be launched to cater to the needs of budget consumers, being a mid-range offering with medium specs.

Some time ago, it was reported that second-generation Firefox OS-based devices (which might mean some new tablets are in the pipeline as well) might get launched in the first half of 2015.

We’re going to go ahead and correlate this with one of the major tech consumer shows that takes place during the first month of the year and say that in all possibility the LG L25 will be unveiled at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

For the time being, most Firefox OS smartphones have been launched in emerging markets. For example, ZTE’s Open handset is available for purchase in India, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay. The same goes for Alcatel One Touch Fire, which is up for grabs in the same regions except India.
