The holiday season isn't that far ahead and, with Microsoft's Windows 7 just weeks ahead of its official debut, a number of companies is gearing up to provide customers with the latest products and technologies. Such is the case with LG, one of the world's leading vendors of consumer electronics and personal computing products. The company has recently announced that it will join the increasing number of companies that has adopted NVIDIA's ION platform, by releasing a new, low-power PC, part of the company's XPION line. The new system is dubbed XPION X30 and, as you might expect, combines an Intel Atom processor with NVIDIA's integrated graphics chipset.

The specifications of the new desktop ION-based nettop are somewhat familiar, as they have already been made available on a couple of other NVIDIA ION-based systems, released in the past few weeks. The nettop is based on the MCP7A chipset and combines Intel's low-power Atom N230 processor with 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard disk drive. Packed inside a small, black chassis, which can be attached to the back of an LCD monitor, the new LG nettop is expected to ship with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system.

The overall design of the new LG nettop makes the new system comparable to Pegatron's own ION-based nettop, which boasts a simple, sleek and slim exterior that can be easily integrated into an HTPC configuration. There are no details regarding the color choices LG will provide for its new XPION X30 nettop, but more should be available along the way.

Unfortunately, the Korean consumer electronics vendor hasn't been very generous with the pricing and availability details of its new, low-power destkop PC. However, it's likely that the new system will be made available before the upcoming holiday shopping season, probably with a choice for Microsoft's Windows 7 OS.
