South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics announced yesterday a new QWERTY candybar device that would become available for purchase in the near future on the UK market, the LG GW300. The new device, the company says, is aimed mainly at social networkers, as it comes with enhanced features in this area, as well as with a 2.4-inch landscape display (with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution) and with a five-way navigational pad to make the browsing activity easier for any user.

The new mobile phone comes to the market with a Facebook application that offers instant access to the social networking site, so that users can stay up to date with social statuses at all times. In addition, the LG GW300 also comes with LiveSquare, which displays contacts on the homescreen as avatars, as well as with a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth connectivity, FM radio and microSD memory card slot with support for up to 4GB of additional storage space.

“It didn’t come as a surprise last week that Facebook announced its user number now totals 300 million, as the mobile industry is continuing to experience consumer demand for social networking focused devices. The new LG GW300 maintains LG’s dedication to bringing innovative social networking handsets to the market as they increasingly become the central communication point for avid social network users” says Jeremy Newing, head of marketing, LG Mobile UK and Ireland.

The specification list of the phone also includes WAP 2.0 / HTML browser, a 2.0-megapixel photo snapper, Java 2.0, music player with support for MP3, AAC+, WMA, AMR, Midi file formats, video player, 10MB of internal memory space, Flash UI, USB 2.0 connectivity, and PC syncing functionality. The new LG GW300 measures 115.5x61x12.75mm, includes a Li-Polymer 900mAh battery and comes with support for GPRS 900/1800/1900 frequencies. The handset can be purchased via UK wireless carrier O2 in electric blue and is also available through Orange in vibrant red, the phone maker added.
