South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has just announced the release of a new smartphone running under Google's Android operating system, one that also sports a sliding design, namely the LG Optimus Q2.

The handset comes to the market with a full QWERTY keyboard, and is expected to provide users with the level of performance that they would expect from a high-end device.

The new mobile phone comes to the market with a large 4-inch touchscreen display, capable of delivering a WVGA resolution, and complemented by the aforementioned full QWERTY keyboard.

At the same time, the handset's IPS touchscreen display is capable of delivering a luminous intensity of 700 nits (candela per square metre).

Although a slider, the new device comes with a very slim body, measuring only 12.3mm (0.48 inch) thick, and weighing in at only 147 grams (5.18 ounces).

The specifications list of this mobile phone also includes a 1.2 gigahertz (GHz) dual-core application processor, which puts the phone in line with some of the latest flagship devices on shelves now, such as the Samsung Galaxy S II or the HTC Sensation.

The new mobile phone also comes to the market with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, as well as with Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, built-in GPS receiver, and the like.

On the back, the new LG Optimus Q2 sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper, with support for HD video recording, and complemented by a front facing camera for video calling.

The new handset is believed to arrive on shelves with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, which means that it will also offer access to a wide range of applications and services available for mobile phone users.

The new Android device is expected to become available for purchase in South Korea starting with the next week, but no specific details on its availability in other markets have emerged until now.
