A new mobile phone is on its way to the market on Verizon Wireless' network, the LG Gelato Q, at least this is what the latest reports on the matter suggest. The said device has just received the necessary approvals from the Federal Communications Commission, and should land on shelves at Verizon in the not too far future.

The “Gelato” name emerged previously in relation to a new handset that should make an appearance on shelves at T-Mobile, the LG Optimus II Gelato.

Moreover, the said handset was also spotted in a leaked shot of Sprint's internal systems, which pointed at a September 11th launch date for the device.

Nothing was confirmed on the availability of the phone for the time being, and the fact that a Verizon-bound LG Gelato Q has just passed through FCC adds some more mystery into the mix.

The mobile phone that received the necessary clearance packs support for CDMA/EvDO frequencies 850MHz and 1900Mhz.

Rumor has it that Verizon might be receiving an upgraded flavor of the LG Optimus One with Gelato, and that a QWERTY keyboard might be included into the mix as well.

Also, previous reports on this device suggested that it might arrive on shelves with Google's Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on board later this year.

Gelato means Ice Cream in Italian, it seems, which makes it quite obvious that things might indeed turn out this way.

The LG Optimus One was brought to the market last year in a wide range of flavors, and the successor might enjoy the same fate as well, thus the rumored launch at the said three wireless carriers in the United States.

However, nothing was confirmed on the existence of this mobile phone for the time being, and we should wait for LG to announce something on this device to learn more on it.
