LG's new flagship will take advantage of the charging feature after all

A few days ago, we brought you some disappointing news related to the LG G4 flagship. Albeit drawing life from a Snapdragon 808 processor, which Qualcomm presents as being Quick Charge 2.0-enabled, LG apparently decided against turning on the feature on its latest smartphone offering.

Instead, the company said that “the G4 has Quick Charge 1.8 Amp capabilities along with wireless charging.”

Fast forward to the present day, LG has changed its story completely. Apparently, the company now says its flagship device officially supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0. What’s more, the G4 is now showing up on Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 pages too, so we can be sure the information is correct.

LG changed its mind about Quick Charge 2.0

LG didn't say anything about Quick Charge 2.0 when it launched the flagship in New York, but given the fact that users can swap out the battery inside the smartphone in order to replace it with a new one, the company probably thought it was enough.

But customers wanted more. On the other hand, the G4 is the first smartphone to arrive with the Snapdragon 808 chip on the inside, so the company probably still had some tinkering to do so that all the features locked inside it would be supported.

Anyway, we’re still a few weeks away from the device’s release on the market in the US, so LG still has some time to make things right.

For the time being, we don’t know whether the LG G4 will have Quick Charge 2.0 compatibility out of the box or whether the feature will be made available via an OTA (over-the-air) update.

It’s good to see that LG has wised up and is going to offer a feature that other flagships like the Nexus 6, Motorola Moto X (2014), HTC One M8 and One M9, plus the Samsung Galaxy S6 are also rocking.

A recent report coming out of Asia claims that consumer interest in the new LG G4 seems to be quite low at the moment. LG has probably taken note of that too, so it’s trying to make its flagship more attractive to mobile users.
