South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is reportedly getting ready for the launch of a successor for its LG G2 smartphone next year, and it might pack it with top-of-the-line hardware capabilities.

One of the features that the upcoming device is expected to hit shelves with is a fingerprint scanner, something that other high-end handsets will also sport.

According to a recent article on Korea Herald, LG has already decided to adopt the technology inside this smartphone, yet an official confirmation on the matter hasn’t been provided as of now.

The news site claims that an LG official has unveiled that the company had decided to go for a fingerprint sensor on the LG G3, while also saying that the handset vendor is already testing the feature.

However, it appears that LG will go for a swipe fingerprint sensor, which will be different from the area-type system that Apple has packed its iPhone 5S with.

Moreover, LG G3 is expected to include a series of other high-end capabilities as well, starting with a 2.2 GHz octa-core processor inside.

The smartphone’s display is said to be able to deliver a 2k (Quad HD) resolution, which should make it highly desirable.

Phones with such high resolution have already started to become official, though it’s yet uncertain whether they will become a norm among flagship devices.

LG might also launch the LG G3 with Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system loaded on top, and it is expected to unveil it at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February next year.

Provided that the company actually decides to make the phone official later next year, given that its predecessors were announced in fall, we might see the LG G3 running under a newer OS version, should one be unveiled in the meantime.

We’ll take the info above with a grain of salt for the time being, though chances are that things will go official soon, especially since LG is said to be already testing a prototype of the upcoming flagship. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
