South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is reportedly getting ready for the launch of two new high-end smartphones in the first half of this year, including a successor for the LG G2.

The handset, supposedly called LG G3, is said to arrive on May 17, and to pack a 5.5-inch touchscreen, which would make it larger than the current flagship device.

According to info coming from Asiae.co.kr, the mobile phone will be able to deliver a 2k resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels), as well as with other improved hardware specs.

Having a Quad HD screen, will certainly allow the phone to stand up in the crowd, though it remains to be seen whether the rumor will indeed pan out. Furthermore, given its larger screen, we might see LG G3 featuring a thin bezel, PhoneArena reports.

The upcoming handset is expected to land on the market with LG’s own Odin processor inside, as well as with a 16-megapixel camera on the back, with Optical Image Stabilization.

LG has been long rumored to plan on launching the LG G3 much earlier when compared to the previous release cycle for its flagship handsets, and chances are that the new rumor will pan out, although the company hasn’t made an official announcement on this as of now.

In addition to this smartphone, LG is also said to plan the release of a successor for last year’s Optimus G Pro, one that should be announced as soon as the next month as LG G Pro 2, most probably at the MWC 2014 show in Barcelona.

This device should sport a 5.9-inch touchscreen display, also capable of delivering a Quad HD resolution, allowing LG to get one step ahead in the high screen resolution race, as Samsung would announce a phone with 2k screen only a month later.

Unfortunately, no official confirmation on this has emerged until now, and we’ll have to take the info with a grain of salt for the time being.
