One of the high-end smartphones that will be launched during this year is said to be the LG G3, a successor for last year’s LG G2 and a powerful competitor for the Samsung Galaxy S5.

At the moment, LG Electronics is getting ready for the launch of LG G Pro 2, which is expected to arrive at the MWC 2014 show in Barcelona later this month with a 5.9-inch screen, but it appears that the upcoming flagship will be the true surprise from the company.

According to a recent report coming from ZDNet Korea, LG G3 will arrive sometime in May or June this year, and it should prove a real Galaxy S5 killer.

LG G2 was announced in August last year, yet it appears that the South Korean mobile phone maker has decided to speed up the release schedule, so as to make up for the sluggish sales that the current flagship has seen.

With the upcoming LG G3, the vendor is expected to make its first foray into the segment of handsets with 2K (2560 x 1440 pixels) screens, while also planning the inclusion of other high-end technology inside the phone.

As PhoneArena notes, LG announced last year that it was working on a 5.5-inch Quad HD IPS LCD panel, and chances are that we might see this screen packed on the forthcoming G3.

Of course, an official confirmation on this hasn’t been provided as of now, and chances are that the phone will prove to be completely different from what is rumored at the moment.

One thing that is certain, however, is that LG will have to include top-of-the-line technology inside the device to leave Galaxy S5 behind.

Samsung is expected to announce its handset at MWC this month with a 5.2-inch screen, a quad-core CPU inside, 3GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel camera on the back. However, no confirmation on this has been provided either.
