Smartphone blows up, apparently for no good reason

Not so long ago, we brought you the story of one unfortunate Canadian student who was sleeping one night with her back turned to her Samsung Galaxy Ace II x smartphone which was charging.

At some point during the night, she was awakened by a loud popping sound and saw a light go across her shoulder, which turned out to be the inside of the phone’s battery that caught fire.

Luckily, no one got hurt, but the bedding and the phone got destroyed. Not to mention the huge scare the student went through.

This time, an LG G3 goes k-boom

Today, we bring you the story of a smartphone that met a similar brutal fate. And it’s no budget handset either. We’re talking about LG’s flagship G3 smartphone, which according to a Reddit-er exploded in her little sister's bed while charging.

The post goes on to mention that the phone did not use an alternate battery, but exactly the one LG shipped the phone with. Apparently, the phone wasn't even under the blankets, but was lying on top of the sheets while being plugged into the charger.

Nevertheless, at some point the phone exploded, causing a fire that practically destroyed the mattress. The flames burned through the material to such an extent that the mattress eventually had to be tossed out the window for fear of further expansion.

Before catching on fire, the phone was used for a brief interval and did not even feel warm to the user. Several pictures have already been posted on social media, showcasing the extent of the damage inflicted by the burning phone.

In the first image you can see the phone has been caught as it was burning through the mattress, while the others present the aftermath.

At the moment, the family is spreading news of the incident throughout social media and they have also contacted LG.

In the meanwhile, the Reddit-er has noticed people online have been complaining of having experiencing overheating problems with the LG G3, while the handset is located in the charging port.

The handset was bought off T-Mobile

The carrier from which the handset was purchased (T-Mobile) will be in charge of the investigation and will bring their findings to LG.

Assuming this report is legit, this is indeed a really odd occurrence and it’s doubtful we will see reports pouring in about G3-s exploding over the place.

As if often happens, after such an incident, the real reason why the phone caught on fire is revealed. Like in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S III that purportedly caught on fire back in 2012 for absolutely no good reason.

However, soon it was discovered that the phone had been dropped in the toilet and had been put in the microwave to dry off.

Given the fact that we have a young girl involved in the LG G3 story, who knows what might have happened to the device.
