South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics might be set to kick off the deployment of the Android 4.4 KitKat OS upgrade for its LG G2 devices as soon as January 1, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The company has already started to push the update to the owners of this smartphone in South Korea, but it hasn’t yet provided specific info on when it will release it internationally.

However, a recent report coming from Android SAS suggests that the New Year will bring the platform upgrade to this handset, although noting has been officially confirmed on this.

Apparently, undisclosed sources have unveiled LG’s plans on the matter, while also saying that the new update will be pushed out over-the-air, as gizchina notes.

For the time being, we’ll take this with a grain of salt, though things might indeed turn out this way in the end.

According to the latest reports, LG has managed to sell just over 2 million G2 smartphones, which is very low compared to the company’s expectations.

However, an early upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat might make the device more appealing to users, while also proving the company’s commitment on the matter.

LG G2 is the latest flagship Android-based smartphone from LG, featuring a 5.2-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) touchscreen display.

The smartphone is powered by a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor paired with 2GB of RAM, and also features 32GB of internal memory.

On the back, the mobile phone sports a 13-megapixel camera, complemented by a front camera for making video calls. Furthermore, it features the power and volume buttons on the back, just beneath the camera.

LG G2 also arrives on shelves with the entire range of usual connectivity options and sensors. It was launched with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top right from the beginning.
