Today, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has officially revealed plans to make the LG G2 mini smartphone available around the world starting with April.

Made official last month during the Mobile World Congress, the handset will be released in CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries in the beginning, the company has announced.

Unfortunately, the vendor did not provide specific info on the price tag that LG G2 mini will sport when available, but it did say that regional branches would unveil such details when the phone starts rolling out.

Just as its name suggests, LG G2 mini comes as the smaller version of the LG G2 flagship. However, the mobile phone does not pack the same high-end hardware specs as its predecessor, but features downgraded capabilities.

It was made official with a 4.7-inch qHD (540 x 960 pixels) display and with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor inside, though the CPU model will differ according to the market, as AndroidOS notes.

An LTE-enabled version of the phone will be powered by a Qualcomm MSM8926 processor, while the 3G variant will sport an MSM9226 processor. LG will also release a Latin American LTE model, which will include a 1.7GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4i CPU, it seems.

Regardless of chipset, LG G2 mini will have 1GB of RAM inside and 8GB of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 64GB of external storage.

The handset will feature a 13-megapixel camera on the back in some markets (where it will also offer support for LTE Cat 4), while packing only an 8-megapixel camera in others (along with LTE Cat 3). A 1.3MP front-facing camera will be present on the device as well.

Powered by a 2440 mAh battery, the smartphone runs under Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box. It also comes with a series of LG-exclusive features, including the new Knock Code, a Guest Mode, Clip Tray, Plug and Pop, and more.

“The compact G2 mini offers a combination of design, hardware and UX features previously unavailable in its class, making it a very attractive option for mid-tier markets,” Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, reportedly said.

“With the G2 mini, our objective is to allow a much larger consumer base to be able to experience the key benefits of the G2 UX in a smaller form factor. And to that end, we’re confident we’ve succeeded with the G2 mini.”
