It looks like LG continues to copy other brands like Sony and Samsung, as the company is now preparing to launch another variation of its successful high-end G2 smartphone.

Although the South Korean company has just announced the LG G2 mini, which is expected to hit shelves sometime this month, there’s another G2 version that might be soon released by LG.

The folks over at Phonearena have just uncovered a new trademark filing from LG Mobile for the name “G2 Compact.” This is strikingly similar to the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, but this one will come with LG’s brand stamped on it.

Unfortunately, there’s not much to tell about the alleged smartphone, as the trademark filing doesn’t contain any references to the device’s specifications.

However, we know for certain that LG G2 Compact will be a smartphone, as the trademark is filed under “Mobile phones; Software for mobile phones” category.

If LG goes on with the release of this mysterious G2 Compact, then we should probably expect a slightly smaller device than the LG G2 mini, which packs a 4.7-inch display.

There’s no point in speculating on other possible hardware configurations; instead we should wait for more details on the so-called LG G2 Compact to surface online. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
