Those who don’t want to wait for the OTA can manually download and install it

Just a few days ago, the Android 4.4.4 KitKat updated arrived on the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets. Now, following the natural course of things, Google Play Edition devices have started receiving the treatment, as well.

One of the first to do so is the LG G Pad 8.3 GPe, but not all device owners will be seeing the update on the tablet. As Android Police points out, some of you might have to wait a little bit more, because the roll out happens to be staggered, so it will hit G Pads at different times.

On the positive side of things, at least you get to skip a beat (Android 4.4.3) and go from Android 4.4.2 (which you need to have on, in order for the update to work) directly to Android 4.4.4.

The new update brings all the novelty of Android 4.4.3 to the tablet plus a few security fixes, so don’t expect to see any dramatic changes. Even so, it certainly feels nice to know you’re running the latest software, doesn't it?

For those of you who haven’t been following the latest developments with Android 4.4.3 we’re going to do a little round-up and tell you what you can expect to see.

First off, the most obvious improvement is the completely newly designed dialer, which has been made to look flatter, simpler, cleaner and light. Google has removed all the “blackness” from it and now uses white, blue and green instead.

Google has also tampered a little with some of the buttons of the dialer, so the different-looking icons will probably stand out.

The People application images have been revamped to look like the ones used by another Google application, namely Gmail.

Furthermore, the new update brings the possibility of pausing the downloading of additional files required by large games in the Google Play Store. This is a pretty handy and nice feature for those who’d like to have better control of their downloads.

Anyway, the official change long has been made available and you can check it out right here.

Going back to LG G Pad 8.3 GPe, if you are impatient and don’t want to wait for the OTA to hit your device, there is another way. For those of you with a custom recovery on your tablet, you can simply flash the ZIP file that’s up for download from xda-developers.

But in the eventuality you are still running stock, you will need a computer and the ADB program installed.
