A few weeks ago we found out LG is planning to launch a set of three tablets with lower specs, pertaining to the LG G Pad family.

The specifications for the smaller 7-inch tab have already been revealed, as the tablet showed up in the AnTuTu benchmarking website, earlier this month.

The tablets were announced a little before the MedPi 2014 event in Monaco, and now thanks to the folks over at FrAndroid we can get a glimpse at what this devices looks like. More specifically, we’re seeing the first live pictures showing the 7-inch LG G Pad.

From the pictures, it’s pretty evident LG has adopted a new design factor, when it comes to these new models.

The company has replaced the aluminum back plate with plastic on top and bottom edges we saw in the G Pad 8.3, and it apparently went all plastic with the new models.

The new tablet also seems to be lot thicker and speakers have been moved on the back and at the bottom.

This is a rather odd choice considering 7-inchers are usually propped upright in portrait mode, when users are trying to watch a video, for example, but positioning the tablet this might cause the speaker grills to be covered up.

Another oddity noticeable in the pictures is the slot located at the top center edge, living right beside the 3.5 mm headphone jack and destined for the microSD card.

Even if LG hasn't officially disclosed the specifications for the G Pad 7.0, they have been known for a while now. Compared to last year’s G Pad 8.3, the new tablet line-up is going to be sporting less desirable specifications something in the vein of the Samsung’s newly launched Tab 4.

The tablet will only offer 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and will bundle a Snapdragon 400 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz fitted with 1GB of RAM and backed up by 8GB of internal storage.

The slate will arrive with two cameras (1.3MP frontal camera and 3.2MP rear one that doesn't come with a LED flash) and Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box.

As a comparison, the LG G Pad 8.3 brings more to the table in terms of hardware. The slate boasts 1920 x 1200 pixels and has a Snapdragon 600 CPU under the hood.

However, all these details about the 7-incher are still unofficial, but it’s highly unlikely we’ll see any major changes when the device hits retail. Information about the 8-inch and 10.1-inch models is still pretty sketchy.
