Starting April 28, the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system update is available for download for the owners of LG G Flex handsets on the network of wireless carrier Sprint in the United States.

The operator officially announced the availability of this update on Monday, while also providing a series of details on what users should expect from it.

First of all, we should note that the new software update is being pushed to users as an over-the-air update, which means that they will receive a notification as soon as it is available for download for their devices.

However, users can also manually check on the availability of the update by heading to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates and clicking on the Check Now button.

As soon as the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is installed on their devices, users should see improved performance capabilities, along with smoother, faster running applications.

Moreover, Sprint notes that the update will also provide a better Web browsing experience, courtesy of the Chromium engine.

Other enhancements included in the update would be more efficient music playback, along with support for cloud printing, which allows users to easily print documents via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection.

Additionally, the update will provide owners of the LG G Flex with support for a battery-saving location mode, which was designed to extend the battery life of the device, so that users will be able to surf the web, watch videos or read emails for longer.

As it happened with other devices out there that were updated to the Android 4.4 KitKat OS, the UI of LG G Flex will also suffer a series of modifications, now showing whitened icons in the status bar.

“Additionally, LG G Flex users will also begin receiving the Knock Code update starting this week. LG previewed Knock Code earlier this year at the 2014 Mobile World Congress,” the wireless carrier notes in a blog post.

“The feature is a more secure, private way for users to unlock their smartphones by using a customized pattern of knocks or taps on the screen. Knock Code is convenient to access, circumvents environmental variables that biometric technology is susceptible to and can be more secure.”

With the Knock Code, the phone’s display is divided into four invisible quadrants, allowing the user to unlock the device by tapping or “knocking” between two to eight times in these quadrants, in a specific sequence.

The wireless carrier also notes that these personalized “knock codes” will leave no visible outline for the pattern used.
