Mobile phone users in India can now purchase the very first curved handset to become available in their country, namely the LG G Flex.

The handset was made official in the country several days ago, when the South Korean mobile phone maker announced that it would have a price tag of Rs. 69,999 ($1.116/€828), but the official availability of the device kicked off only today, as fonearena notes.

The handset sports a high price tag, that’s for sure; yet, it was priced higher than expected in other countries as well. However, its market performance might have to suffer in India due to the leveraged cost.

For those out of the loop, we should note that LG G Flex does not come only with a curved screen, but that its entire body is curved, which should offer a better experience to its users.

The mobile phone was made official with a 6-inch Curved Plastic OLED display capable of delivering an HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution, as well as with a self-healing back plate, aimed at offering increased protection from scratches and the like.

Moreover, the mobile phone arrives on shelves with a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) processor, paired with a 450 MHz Adreno 330 GPU and with 2GB LP DDR3 RAM.

LG G Flex was launched with 32GB of internal memory, as well as with support for 3G HSPA+ networks, and with WiFi 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, GPS, and NFC to complement its list of connectivity capabilities.

On the back, the handset features a 13-megapixel camera with LED flash and support for full HD video recording, complemented by a 2.1MP front camera for making video calls while on the go.

LG G Flex measures 160.5 x 81.6 x 7.9 – 8.7 mm, weighs 177 grams, and is powered by a 3500mAh battery. LG launched it with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top, but should provide it with an upgrade to the Android 4.4 KitKat platform in the not-too-distant future.
