Although the race for the world’s first smartphone to feature a curved display has been over since Samsung announced the Galaxy Round earlier this month, LG felt obliged to announce its own curved smartphone, the G Flex.

The smartphone comes with several innovative technologies that have enabled LG to manufacture a true curved smartphone. Aside from the curved display that LG announced a few weeks ago, the handset maker has also introduced a curved battery and the so-called Self-Healing technology that allows the back cover to recover from scratches.

According to LG, the G Flex will be initially released in South Korea sometime in November, but more countries will get the curved smartphone in the future as well.

Hardware-wise, LG G Flex should be one of the most powerful Android smartphones soon to be available on the market.

The device is equipped with a 2.26 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit clocked at 450MHz, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

The 6-inch curved P-OLED (Real RGB) capacitive touchscreen display supports HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. Previous rumors have suggested that the G Flex will boast a full HD (1080p) display, but it looks like LG has added an HD screen.

On the back, the smartphone sports an impressive 13-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front, there’s a secondary 2.1-megapixel camera for video calls.

When it comes to connectivity, LG G Flex is an all-rounder. It offers LTE-A and HSPA+, as well as Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi and NFC (Near Field Communication).

LG G Flex measures 160.5 x 81.6 x 7.9 – 8.7mm and weighs 177g (battery included). Speaking of which, the phone’s curved 3500 mAh battery is non-removable and has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.

Last but not least, the smartphone ships with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. Keep in mind that these specs have been confirmed for the South Korean version of LG G Flex, so the international model might be launched with different hardware configuration.
