The original model sports a huge 6-inch display

One of the latest devices that revolutionized the smartphone market, the LG G Flex was also one of the first to feature a curved display.

If not for Samsung Galaxy Round which was announced several days earlier, the G Flex would have been the world's first curved smartphone.

Still, considering the Galaxy Round was only a prototype device made available in South Korea, we could say that LG G Flex is in fact the world's first curved smartphone for the masses.

The G Flex not only introduces the flexible display but it also comes with a self-healing coating on the back. This means that any minor scratches on the battery cover will disappear after a while without the user having to do anything for that matter.

Another new technology that LG had to employ when making the G Flex available for the general public was the flexible battery. Due to the chassis' curved design, the battery inside the LG G Flex had to be flexible, just like the 6-inch display.

LG managed to solve this issue and those who had the chance to handle the G Flex already know that the smartphone bends when pressure is applied on it, but the device reverts immediately to its initial form.

The G Flex 2 will feature a smaller chassis, better hardware specs

The phone's 6-inch OLED display is made of plastic, which is why it can drastically bend without breaking. However, many were concerned about the G Flex's huge size, which seems to have been taken into consideration by LG, as the South Korean company is now planning a sequel.

As per AndroidAuthority's report, sources familiar with LG's plans for next year claim the G Flex 2 will be officially unveiled next month at CES 2015 trade fair.

LG G Flex 2 is expected to feature a smaller flexible display and the same self-healing coating on the back, but improved.

The phone's plastic curved display will have a higher resolution (possibly full HD). Talking about the rest of the G Flex 2 specs, the cited source claims the smartphone will be a “major upgrade” over the current model.

No other details on what could be inside the LG G Flex 2 have been leaked for the time being, but we suspect more info will emerge as we're getting close to release date.

Speaking of release, while LG G Flex 2 might be announced in early January, there's little chance that the smartphone will be available for purchase until after several weeks.
