The handset will be offered in two color variations

Earlier today we told you some images of LG’s new G Flex 2 smartphone popped up on some of the company’s giant screens at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

Well, it appears the press release announcing the advent of the bendy smartphone has already surfaced, so we can be pretty sure the handset will make a real-life appearance at the event (as seen at T Break).

Even if the original G Flex handset wasn't really one of the company’s most popular handsets, LG is continuing to push this atypical form factor with the G Flex 2.

The G Flex 2 is smaller than the previous iteration

Interestingly enough, the follow-up’s display isn't as large as the original’s. The Flex 2 arrives with a 5.5-inch screen (compared to 6-inch) boasting 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The first-gen bendy handset boasted the standard 1280 x 720 instead.

The screen is of the P-OLED variety so you should be able to enjoy deep black and nifty colors. As expected, under the hood resides a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU clocked at a max of 2.0 GHz working in concert with 2GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage (microSD card slot that takes cards of 2TB capacity).

As for photography, the new G Flex 2 takes advantage of a 13MP rear-facing camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) as well as auto-focus just like last year’s G3. Up in front we have a 2.1MP secondary snapper.

The new handset will arrive with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The handset’s measurements are 149.1 x 74.2 x 7.1-9.4mm / 5.8 x 2.9 x 0.27-0.37 inches, so it’s not the sleekest of phones you’ll find on the market today.

The handset has a capable 3,000 mAh battery and thanks to a special feature the device can charge up to 50% in under to 40 minutes.

Other specs include 4G/LTE/HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth Smart Ready 4.1, NFC, SlimPort, A-GPS / Glonass and USB 2.0.

Now for the bendy part: LG points out that the display has a curvature of 700 mm / 27.5 inch. Leaving this aspect aside, the manufacturing company says the device features curves all over the place, so users will have no problem with holding the device.

Self-healing is taken to the next level

The self-healing back is also present, but with this new model LG promises a healing time of just meager seconds in normal room temperature.

Expect the LG G Flex 2 to launch in South Korea towards the end of this month, but other markets will see it later in Q1. The handset will be offered in Platinum Silver and Flamenco Red for an undisclosed price.
