The first pictures of the LG Enlighten emerged more than two weeks ago, but the phone was known under a different moniker, the LG Gelato Q.

Slated for an August 25 release at Verizon Wireless, the phone has just made its appearance and seems to be ready for its official launch.

LG Enlighten press photos leaked courtesy to the guys over at Pocketnow and show a QWERTY slider that bears Verizon's logo.

The Enlighten is the twin brother of the LG Optimus Net, which is expected to be released by either T-Mobile USA or AT&T in early September, as LG Gelato.

After months of rumors, it looks like the QWERTY-equipped version of the Optimus Net will be launched this Thursday.

Although the phone will be initially released by Verizon, it appears that other U.S.-based operators will carry the smartphone, including Sprint, US Cellular and Cellular South.

There is no information regarding the phone's price tag, but the Enlighten is a mid-entry Android smartphone, which suggests that it might hit shelves for under $100 subsidized.

Verizon's variant of the phone is codenamed VS700 and is powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Equipped with a single core 800 Mhz, LG Enlighten packs only 150MB of internal memory, but features a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Rumors suggests that the Enlighten might be delivered with a free 2GB memory card included in the sales package, but we don't have a confirmation yet.

Besides its generous slide-out QWERTY keyboard, the smartphone has a medium-size 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with 262k colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution.

Furthermore, the phone sports a mediocre 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and video recording capabilities.

Other highlights of the LG Enlighten include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, 3G Mobile Hotspot, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.
