As expected, Bell Canada and Virgin Mobile added the LG Eclypse to their portfolios of Android smartphones. The slider was rumored to be launched on Canada for quite a while, but Bell had to delay the device’s release for unknown reasons.

LG Eclypse was initially slated for a December 2 release at Bell Canada, but it was postponed for December 12 and given a Virgin Mobile launch as well.

Customers who wish to purchase the Eclypse will be happy to know that Bell Canada is giving the smartphone for free with a new three-year contract.

However, we cannot say the same thing about Virgin Mobile, which is offering the Eclypse for as low as $49.99 (37 EUR) on SuperTAB. Both carriers sell the LG Eclypse for the same suggested retail price, $250 (190 EUR).

The Eclypse is aimed at customers who prefer messaging phones, but don’t want to be technologically left behind. This is one of those budget-friendly Android smartphones that can offer both worlds: advanced messaging features and productivity tools.

The device is fully compatible with Bell’s HSPA+ network and can offer users download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support is also included, along with GPS with A-GPS and USB connection.

LG Eclypse is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and provides access to more than 300,000 apps and games via Android Market.

Another strong point of the smartphone is the full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, allowing for faster and more accurate typing.

The phone is equipped with an 800 MHz processor and packs 1 GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). Bell also offers a free 4GB memory card in the sales package.

There’s also a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen display with 320 x 480 pixels resolution, and a 5-megapixel camera with flash and digital zoom.
