T-Mobile USA and LG have just announced the upcoming availability of the LG DoublePlay Android smartphone.

Although no price options and release date have been unveiled, LG mentions that the DoublePlay will be the main star at this year's LG U.S. National Texting Championship, which is scheduled to start on October 26.

During the contest competitors will need to type phrases on an LG DoublePlay as fast and correct as they can, while distracted by blind folds.

However, those who want to enter the contest should know that the DoublePlay comes with a split QWERTY keyboard and dual capacitive touchscreens.

With its split keyboard and dual screens, LG DoublePlay's impressive hardware made it the obvious choice for the official mobile phone of the 2011 National Texting Championship. LG is proud to be leading the charge in the next generation of mobile messaging devices while continuing its legacy as a leading manufacturer in QWERTY keyboard devices,” said Carl Brown, director of trade marketing for LG Mobile.

The smartphone is equipped with a 3.5-inch main display and a 2.0-inch sub display, which operate independently or in tandem.

Furthermore, LG DoublePlay is powered by a single core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and packs a 5-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash and 720p HD video recorder.

Whether sending texts or emails, checking in on social media sites, or browsing the Web, consumers are looking for fun and easy ways to stay connected to the people and things that matter most to them. With the introduction of LG DoublePlay and its unique dual-screen design, we are bringing the ultimate multitasking tool to our customers,” said Kim Swanson, director, product management, T-Mobile USA.

In addition, the DoublePlay provides users with a range of messaging options, including Cloud Text and Group Text.

Software-wise, the smartphone runs Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system with access to more than 250,000 apps via Android Market.
