In the last year or so, the display industry has engaged in a heated race to improve panel response times, leading to products that feature high refresh rates, such as 120Hz or 240Hz, LG being proud to announce they have just developed the first Full HD 23-inch 240Hz LCD panel for monitors and TVs.

According to the company this is the first time that the 240Hz technology was applied in a 23-inch product under mass production, such high refresh rates being usually limited to high-end TV panels that are at least 40-inch in size.

In order to achieve this impressive feat, LG combined its 120Hz technology with a scanning backlight technology that effectively doubles the refresh rate, resulting in a 240Hz LCD panel.

Although this approach actually works, the image quality isn't up to par with other Samsung and Sony panels that achieve a 240Hz refresh rate by creating three additional frames of data in order to supplement the original 60Hz signal.

However, going past that, the most impressive feat about this new panel is that it actually built using IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, this coming as a huge step forward compared to regular TN panels, providing users with improved color reproduction and wider viewing angles.

Ha Hyun Hwoi, LG Display's VP and head of the IT business unit, noted, "This product was designed to meet expectations of consumers who are already used to superior picture quality and high motion picture response time.”

LG Display will continue with efforts to introduce products that deliver new value to our customers and consumers," concluded the company's Vice President.

Unfortunately, no informations regarding when will these new panels become available in monitors and TVs have been provided, although the company stated these are bound to enter mass production any day from now.
