It might arrive as a dual-core flavor of Optimus 4X HD

South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new high-end Android smartphone in the near future, the LG D1L.

Following the unveiling of a handful of new devices at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, LG appears set to expand the available options for its customers even more.

While high-end, the new device from LG won’t be a flagship phone, at least this is what its rumored specifications show.

To be more specific, the mobile phone is said to be on its way to the market with a large 4.7-inch touchscreen display that would boast an HD (720p) resolution, same as the LG Optimus 4X HD that was launched in February.

Unlike its predecessor, however, the new smartphone is said to feature only a dual-core application processor inside, clocked in at 1.5GHz.

For those out of the loop, we should note that LG Optimus 4X HD was launched as LG’s first quad-core Android-based device.

No further details are available on this mobile phone, but it appears that an LG employee who requested anonymity confirmed that the vendor was working on this device.

The employee also confirmed that this smartphone would be the first that LG is set to deliver to shelves with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on board.

Chances are that this would be only a new flavor of Optimus 4X HD, one that LG has designed to better fit the needs of users in LTE markets such as the United States (similar with what HTC did with its One X smartphone for AT&T).

One way or the other, it appears clear that LG D1L won’t be a match for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S III. Although also with a 4.6-4.7’’ screen on the front, Samsung’s phone will boast a quad-core CPU for increased performance capabilities.
