The battle for the release of the first smartphone with a curved display has begun with Samsung and LG being the only contenders.

Apparently, Samsung seems to have the upper hand, as the handset maker is said to launch its Galaxy Round smartphone featuring a curved display side to side this month.

Nevertheless, Reuters reports that LG Electronics has just confirmed that it will start mass production of curved smartphone displays soon and will launch its own device featuring such a screen in November.

LG’s curved smartphone will boast a huge 6-inch display, but that’s about all we know for now about the handset.

According to LG, its own display will be curved top to bottom, unlike Samsung’s Galaxy Round display that features a curved form factor side to side. Stay tuned for more on this.
