South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics is getting ready for the launch of a successor for last year’s Optimus G smartphone, and has already confirmed plans for that.

In fact, the company has also unveiled that the new smartphone will land on shelves with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor packed inside, which should make it one of the most powerful smartphones out there.

According to LG, the upcoming mobile phone will be able to deliver up to 75 percent faster performance when compared to the Optimus G, which is powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU.

The company also notes that the upcoming handset will be able to deliver stunning performance, rich graphics, and outstanding battery efficiency.

On top of that, it will come with carrier aggregation, while capable of offering fast 4G LTE connectivity through maximizing spectrum bandwidth.

"With a powerful combination of LG's core smartphone technologies and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, we are taking a significant step forward in the mobile experience," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

"The result of this collaboration will in many ways be the industry's best smartphone by which all other devices will be measured."

The Snapdragon 800 CPU features Krait 400 CPUs in quad configuration, an Adreno 330 GPU, enhanced aSMP (asynchronous Symmetric Multiprocessing) architecture, and Qualcomm IZat Location technology for better navigation capabilities.

Additionally, there’s support for capturing and viewing video files in Ultra HD format, as well as HD multichannel audio with DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus.

"We are pleased with continued collaboration with LG," said Murthy Renduchintala, executive vice president, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and co-president, Qualcomm mobile and computing.

"Fully tailored and tightly integrated with the entire next G series platform, the new, best-in-class Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor will help deliver blazing fast web browsing, eye-popping graphics, seamless connectivity as well as an unmatched multimedia experience."

LG has said that the next Optimus G smartphone – supposedly the long rumored Optimus G2 – would be announced in the third quarter of the year, but hasn’t provided specific info on when that should happen.
