Canadian mobile phone users who currently own an LG Optimus 2X smartphone will not be able to enjoy the benefits of Ice Cream Sandwich, LG Canada has confirmed.

The handset, currently available in the country via Fido, WIND and Videotron, will remain stuck with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, it seems.

“The Optimus 2X will not be receiving the ICS upgrade. The original upgrade announcement was a general statement issued from HQ,” LG Canada announced via Twitter.

The smartphone was rumored before to be en-route to taste the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update, especially since LG said last November that the update was being prepared for it.

However, it seems that things did not turn the way enthusiasts were expecting. LG did not offer details on why it took this decision.
