Today, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics has announced its financial results for the first quarter of the year, and it has also confirmed that the long-rumored LG G3 will arrive before the end of the second quarter of 2014.

The company has announced smartphone sales of 12.3 million units for Q1 2014 and has also noted that these account for 75 percent of its overall mobile phone sales. Compared to the same period a year ago, this marks an increase of 19 percent in sales.

Moreover, LG has announced that it managed to ship no less than 5 million LTE smartphones in the timeframe, the highest in a single quarter.

The increase in sales of LTE handsets was of 79 percent year-over-year. Moreover, the company has noted that these devices account for 41 percent of all smartphone shipments, a great improvement over the 27 percent of shipments they accounted for in 2013.

Moreover, the handset vendor has said that revenue was up 6 percent year-on-year, and that its operating profit margins rose quarter-on-quarter. The availability of LG G Pro 2 in South Korea was one of the main growth driving factors.

However, the company is also confident that the second quarter of the year will mark even higher sales, mainly due to the release of LG G3, its next flagship smartphone. The company is also looking to make its mass-tier L Series III devices available in more markets out there.

Although not official as of now, the LG G3 is now confirmed to make an appearance in the second quarter of the year, something that was rumored a few times before.

The phone is said to arrive on the market with a large 5.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, as well as with a Snapdragon 801 processor inside, supposedly clocked it at 2.3GHz or higher.

Moreover, the phone is rumored with 2GB or 3GB of RAM, as well as with 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

At the same time, the upcoming smartphone is said to pack a 13MP or a 16MP camera on the back, capable of recording videos in 4K resolution. A 2.4MP front camera is also said to be included on this device.

LG G3 should run under the Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, though it will also feature LG’s Optimus UI loaded on top, so as to deliver a unique experience to its users. The handset should be formally introduced very soon, so stay tuned to learn more on it.
