14 DAY TRIAL // Mobile phone maker LG Electronics and wireless carrier Alltel Wireless announced officially the availability of a new device on the operator's network, the LG Axis. Running under Google's Android 2.1 operating system, the new mobile phones puts together a touchscreen display with a sliding QWERTY, so that users can enjoy fast typing and easy access to the handset's features.
“Versatile and sophisticated, LG Axis offers Alltel customers a Google Android user interface, customizable applications and entertainment experience that will keep users effortlessly connected to the things that matter the most, wherever life may go,” the handset vendor notes.
The new device offers support for the wide range of applications available for download via the Android Market. Moreover, it enables users customize a number of up to five different home screens with shortcuts for apps, widgets, and more.
The specifications list of the new mobile phone also includes a a 3.2 megapixel digital camera and camcorder, along with Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS navigation with Google Maps (voice-aided, turn-by-turn directions), and support for Alltel's 3G wireless network.

“LG Axis allows you to navigate through multiple screens with a simple touch or utilize the slide out keyboard for quick, accurate messaging.”
The new Android smartphone also comes with Bluetooth technology inside, and with multitasking capabilities so that users would be able to play music and send messages at the same time, or do more.

The new LG Axis was made available for purchase at Alltel Wireless for only $89.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier and after a $50 mail in rebate.
